| French Circle Time My foreign language circle time follows the same basic pattern every class: Hello Song Greetings/warm-up/review New Language is introduced Fun & Games Goodbye Song Opening Song: Same song sung at each lesson in the target language in order to signal the shift in language and to get the child’s attention. Greetings / warm-up / review: Begin warm–up with a rhyme or a chant that describes circle time behavior. We then spend approximately half the class-time on review asking basic questions like, how are you today, what’s your name, weather, age, etc. to reiterate topics and vocabulary already learned. After a daily warm-up, those little language-ready brains are ready learn something new! Input of New Words and Phrases Use of props, costumes, pictures, story books, drama, songs and movement to introduce new language expressions and concepts. Guided Practice / Fun and Games Short games or activities will reinforce the new language expressions. Children like to identify items that they pull out of a mystery bag, act out stories as the teacher narrates, or play a friendly game of concentration, bingo or frappé! If time allows, crafts, coloring, or small group games can extend the lesson after circle time. Goodbye song After a class of full of language immersion and fun, it’s time to wrap up and sing our goodbye song. Just as the opening song, the same goodbye song is sung at the end of each lesson. Develop language skills, confidence and excitement in your children through a fun French circle time. |
